Former Ironwood Ridge standout Jake Engel is the only current player to be named to the Dixie State All-Decade Baseball Team (2011-20).
Engel batted .385 with 14 home runs and 52 RBI in 2019 to earn first team All-RMAC, first team all-South Central Region, and D2CCA and Rawlings first team All-America honors, along with third team ABCA/Rawlings All-America accolades.
According to a release, Engel was off to a solid start to the 2020 season, during which he hit .458 with six homers and 26 RBI in 16 games before the season abruptly ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, he became the first player in the program’s NCAA era to hit in 20-straight games and enters the 2021 campaign with a 21-game hit streak. Heading into his second senior season, Engel is currently ranked fifth in career batting (.355), fourth in slugging percentage (.620), fourth in home runs (22), eighth in RBI (108), seventh in total bases (229) and 11th in runs (102).
list will be updated all year in an effort to recognize all former local prep stars who have gone on to achieve either academic and/or athletic awards at the next level. These are not high school awards but collegiate and professional recognitions. NOT CHAMPIONSHIPS. If you are aware of anything I have missed along the way, please let me know.
