Sahuaro senior forward Alyssa Brown scored 38 points in the Cougars’ 57-54 win at Flowing Wells on Monday night, increasing her career scoring total to 2,491 points, which puts her No. 2 in Southern Arizona history.
Brown, a 6-foot-1 forward, also had 14 rebounds against Flowing Wells.
She passed former Tucson High standout Alexis Cortez, who had 2,479 points from 2012-16, to move into the second spot locally behind Catalina Foothills and Arizona great Julie Brase.
Brase, Lute Olson’s granddaughter, holds the state record with 2,913 points from 1994-98.
Brown, who played in her 100th career game Monday, is also nine points shy of becoming only the sixth player to reach 2,500 in Arizona girls basketball history.
If the UNLV signee scores more than 14 points against CDO on Tuesday night at home, she will move into the top five of the state’s career scoring list.
Ashley Wirtzberger, formerly of Yuma Catholic and Gila Bend, is at No. 5 with 2,505 points scored from 2006-10.
Sahuaro (12-0) is the No. 2-ranked team in the 4A behind Seton Catholic Prep (14-0). Those teams played in the 4A state championship game last year with Seton Catholic prevailing.
The Cougars have four regular-season games remaining before the playoffs start next week. They host CDO on Tuesday and travel to play the Dorados on Wednesday, play at Salpointe Catholic on Thursday and host Pueblo on Friday.
