Arizona’s Aari McDonald Naismith Defensive Player of the Year finalist

Information from the Arizona media relations department contributed to this report:

All-American guard and two-time Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year Aari McDonald was named one of the four finalists for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award on Monday morning for the second year in a row.

McDonald led the Pac-12 in steals per game averaging 2.7 per game for three consecutive years. McDonald has had at least three steals in each of her last seven games, including a season-high six at Arizona State in the last game of the regular season.

She routinely picks up the opposing team’s point guard full court for 35-plus minutes per game, causing havoc on the defensive end. This is the second-straight season McDonald has been named a finalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award.

McDonald and the No. 3-seeded Wildcats will play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament later today as they take on No. 14-seeded Stony Brook at 11 a.m. at the Alamodome on ESPN2.
