At first it looked as if California was coming in hot on Saturday as it wasted no time loading the bases and scored one in the first. They would again score a run in the second.

Arizona’s offense woke up in the fourth behind the heart of the order.

Ryan Holgate drilled a double, followed by Daniel Susac with a RBI single scoring Holgate from second. After that, second baseman Kobe Kato singled and later scored on a RBI double by Mac Bingham. Arizona would then score one in the fifth.

Arizona’s pitching again went deep into the game, as Garrett Irvin (2-1) threw six complete innings giving up five hits, striking out six and only allowing two runs. Irvin was then relieved by Chandler Murphy and Riley Cooper who combined threw two innings allowing two runs.

California would again threaten Arizona by scoring one in the seventh and then leaving runners in scoring position in the eighth.

In the ninth inning, Arizona closer Vince Vannelle, had trouble closing the door. Ryan Abshier came in with one out and earned his first save of the season.
