One player in, another player out. And, oh, yes a coach stays in.
It was a busy day for Tommy Lloyd & Co. Well, at least he has more company today than he did yesterday given the events of the day.
His former big man at Gonzaga Oumar Ballo was in the transfer portal is now headed to Arizona while former UA signee KJ Simpson is likely headed elsewhere after asking for his release earlier in the day.
And, oh by the way, UA coach Jack Murphy has been retained by Lloyd.
Busy x three on Monday, adding to what’s already been a busy few days since Lloyd was hired last week.
Ballo, who had been in the portal since April 11, is a 7-footer who was a redshirt with the Bulldogs. Ballo is from Mali. Former UA big man Mohamed Tangera was a native of Mali.
Ballo averaged 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in just six minutes a game this past season. He was a redshirt freshman in 2019-20.
It had been suspected Simpson would ask for his release from UA after Lloyd was hired.
Monday’s news adds to the news from last week that UA guard Kerr Kriisa and James Akinjo have placed their names on the transfer portal as well. Akinjo earlier had announced he was going to test the NBA waters.
