The last time Casey Kenney fought, it was against a fellow Tucsonan and legend in the bantam weight division — Dominick Cruz on March 6 in UFC 259 at Las Vegas.

Kenney, who trains at Rise Combat Sports on Tanque Verde Road, narrowly lost to Cruz in a split decision, but looked really good throughout the entire three rounds, against a former champion, at that.

It was announced Monday that Kenney is the latest fighter to be added to UFC 265’s main card on Aug. 7. The site has yet to be determined but Houston looks to be frontrunner according to reports.

Kenney, who is 5-2 in the UFC and 16-3-1 overall, will take on fellow veteran Song Yadong, who is 5-1-1 in the UFC and 16-5-1 overall.

The card also features the women’s bantam weight champion Amanda Nunes taking on the sixth-ranked challenger Julianna Peña, Jose Aldo vs. Pedro Munhoz, Vince Morales vs. Drako Rodriquez and Johnny Muñoz vs. Jamey Simmons.

Yadong is coming off of his first loss against Kyler Phillips via unanimous decision.

There are high stakes involved in this fight, as both warriors are looking to avoid a two-fight skid in their career.
