Mike Candrea head coaching tree includes Flowing Wells, Arizona grad Candace Abrams


Make that 13 former players who played under Mike Candrea at Arizona who are presently head coaches.

It was reported here this week that Candrea’s coaching tree was at 12 former players with the hire of Caitlin Lowe to replace him at Arizona.

Candace Abrams, a former Flowing Wells High School standout, completed her first full season at Clarendon (Texas) Junior College this season after spending two seasons as the head coach at West Texas A&M.

Candace Abrams was a member of Arizona’s 2001 Women’s College World Series championship team.

A four-year letterwinner, the versatile Abrams played catcher and outfield during her career with the Wildcats. An Academic All-American Honorable Mention, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and State of Arizona Teaching Certification in 2004.

She has experienced coaching stops with Arizona as a graduate assistant, assistant at Pima College, head coach at Catalina Foothills High School in 2007 and 2008, assistant at Barry University at Miami Gardens, Fla., an assistant again at Arizona, head coach at Colorado Mesa, head coach at West Texas A&M and now head coach at Clarendon.

Clarendon finished 25-20-1 this season and placed six players on the all-conference team.
