Sunnyside, the District 12 champion, will have to work its way to a championship through the elimination bracket in the Arizona Little League 9-10-11 state tournament at Payson.
Sunnyside, which lost to Queen Creek 13-10 in the opening round on Thursday, will play Payson Friday night at 7 in an elimination-bracket game. Queen Creek, which overcame a 10-5 deficit, will play Cave Creek Cactus Foothills at 4 p.m. on Friday in the winner’s bracket.
Phoenix Arcadia, which defeated Payson on Thursday, advances to the winner’s bracket final on Saturday and will play either Queen Creek or Cactus Foothills in that game.
Eliana Ramirez reached base four times and scored three runs to lead Sunnyside against Queen Creek. Angelina Meza and Aracely Soto also scored two runs for Sunnyside.
