Sunnyside continued its hopes of a state championship Friday in the Arizona Little League state 9-10-11 softball tournament held at Rumsey Park in Payson.

Sunnyside beat Payson 16-10 in an elimination-bracket game that was called at midnight when the field’s lights turned off. Sunnyside’s win sets up a rematch with Queen Creek, which beat Sunnyside 13-10 in the opening round Thursday.

Queen Creek was sent to the elimination bracket by Cave Creek Cactus Shadows, who won that matchup 16-4 on Friday.

Sunnyside will play Queen Creek at 4 p.m. followed by the winner’s bracket final between Cactus Foothills and Phoenix Arcadia at 7 p.m.
