Sunnyside advances to Majors state tournament winner’s bracket final


Sunnyside defeated Chandler North 12-0 in four innings Tuesday night to advance to the winner’s bracket final of the Arizona Little League Majors State Tournament at the Tempe Sports Complex.

Sunnyside will play Thursday at 6 p.m. against Queen Creek, which beat Oro Valley 4-3 in seven innings on Tuesday night. The winner between Sunnyside and Queen Creek will advance to the winner-take-all championship game Saturday.

All nine spots in Sunnyside’s lineup scored against Chandler North as the team tallied 10 hits.

Ezequiel “Checka” Lorta, Carlos Rodriguez and Luis Zazueta finished with two RBIs. Lorta and Rodriguez also tripled.

Christian Moran, Jancito Preciado, Joshua Valenzuela and Eli Urias also drove in runs.

Sabino Gonzalez was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits in four innings with four strikeouts and two walks. Only once did a runner advance to third base.
