The Tucson Sugar Skulls postseason chances hinge upon winning the last game of the regular season in Prescott Valley today and two other games finishing in their favor.

If Tucson beats Northern Arizona and both Sioux Falls and Bismarck win their respective games today, the Sugar Skulls will make their second appearance in the playoffs in the franchise’s first two seasons.

The Sugar Skulls (5-8) play today against the Northern Arizona Wranglers (1-12) at the Findlay Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. Kickoff is at 6:05 p.m. The game can be viewed on the IFL YouTube page.

Sioux Falls (5-7) plays today at home against Green Bay (5-8) at 5:05 p.m. Arizona Time.

Bismarck (7-7) plays today on the road at Duke City (6-7) at 6:05 p.m. Arizona Time.

Head coach Dixie Wooten explained what’s keeping the team motivated on the Tucson Sugar Skulls Coaches Show.

“We know what’s on the line right now,” Wooten said. “We know, at the end of the day, if you don’t make the playoffs, checks stop. People want to make sure that you get paid to take care of your people and make sure you get checks.

“But also, more than that is, we know what’s on the line. We know that when we get to the playoffs, that’s when the scouts are going to watch.”

While getting game checks and exposure are major motivating factors for the team, the ultimate goal is winning a championship trophy.

“With checks and also being, you know, trying to win a championship, that’s the reason why we want to go and hit Northern Arizona in the mouth.”
