FC Tucson aiming to extend seven-game unbeaten streak, strengthen playoff bid

It is a homecoming for FC Tucson as they return to Kino North on Saturday night after being away for two matches.

The Men in Black (9-8-6) face North Texas SC (7-7-9) at 7 p.m.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two clubs. FC Tucson is 0-2-1 against the team from Arlington, Texas.

FC Tucson will look to strengthen their playoff bid with a win tonight. Currently, FC Tucson sits atop North Texas at fifth place with 33 points five games left. North Texas is barely in playoff contention at sixth place with 30.

The last time Tucsonans were able to cheer for their Men in Black was Sept. 11 during a 3-0 blowout against Fort Lauderdale FC.

Since then, they took to the road to extend their unbeaten streak to seven games, tying with Greenville Triumph SC 3-3 and shutting out Union Omaha 1-0.

Last week’s win was something special for FC Tucson, as no team was able to beat the second-place club — Union Omaha — in their home pitch this season.

The three points secured with the win was also enough to push FC Tucson ahead of Greenville Triumph SC (9-7-8) for third place before being jumped by New England Revolution II (10-9-4, 34 points) and Greenville Triumph (35 points).

Maxi Schenfeld and Juan Delgado were awarded to the USL League One Team Of The Week for their performance on last week.

FC Tucson will wear alternative jerseys tonight for Southern Arizona Heritage Night. The jerseys, nicknamed ‘El Jefe’ for the legendary jaguar that has been spotted in the mountains, will have a unique sunset design with a black painted silhouette of the animal on the side. The jerseys were designed by local supporter, Ramses Abud.

FC Tucson will also play this Wednesday at Kino North against North Carolina FC at 7 p.m.
