CDO volleyball climbs to No. 2 in latest AIA rankings release


Canyon del Oro, which defeated rival Salpointe in five sets on Monday night, climbed to No. 2 in the 4A state power ratings that were released by the AIA on Tuesday.

The Dorados, who are 15-2 overall and 5-0 in the 4A Kino, are ranked only behind Notre Dame Prep (21-3).

Salpointe (17-8) is rated No. 3.

Of note: The three Vail schools are rated in the top 20 of their respective classifications. Cienega is No. 12 in 5A, Mica Mountain is No. 8 in 4A and Empire is No. 6 in 3A.

Here are the rankings of classifications that include Southern Arizona schools in the top 20 (note that the AIA does not count in-season tournament towards a team’s record):
