— The Jaguars (5-1 overall and 0-1 in the 5A Southern) will try to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they travel Friday to Marana to face Mountain View (2-4, 1-0).

— QB Oscar Barraza, a senior, rushed 12 times for 55 yards.

— RB Carlos Alvarez, a senior, gained 64 yards on six carries.

— LB Sean Sierra, a junior, had 12 tackles

— The Nighthawks (2-4, 0-1 in the 5A Sonoran) host Sunnyside (4-2, 0-1) in a must-win game for both teams Friday.

— QB Tyler Haynie, a senior, completed 10 of 19 passes for 149 yards with one TD.

— RB Jordan Thomas, a junior, rushed for 157 yards on 10 carries with two TDs and six receptions for 92 yards and a TD.

— RB Kiko Trejo, a senior, gained 93 yards on eight carries with two TDs, and he had a 70-yard TD reception.

— RB Ashton Haynes, a senior, rushed for 127 yards on 11 rushes with three TDs.


— The Bulldogs (1-4, 0-1 in the 4A Gila) will try to put an end to their four-game losing streak when they host Empire (3-4, 1-0) on Friday.

— QB Caden Dawes, a junior, completed 7 of 11 passes for 185 yards with a TD.

— RB Kayden Luke, a sophomore, rushed for 169 yards on 26 carries with four TDs.

— PUEBLO (3-3) played its last non-regional game before starting play in the 4A Kino on Friday at home against CDO (4-3, 1-0).

— The Cougars (0-5, 0-1) will host a non-region game with Buckeye Union (4-2) on Friday night.

— Empire coach George Kelly continues with one of the best coaching performances in Southern Arizona coaching the Ravens to a 3-4 overall record and 1-0 in the 4A Gila. Empire will look to be at least at the .500 mark eight games into the season for the first time since since the Ravens started 5-3 under W.T. Jeffries in 2017 in Friday’s game at Douglas (1-4, 0-1).

— QB Miles Kinney, a senior, completed 8 of 13 passes for 172 yards with two TDs.

— RB/LB Jake Lambert, a senior, gained 155 yards on 20 carries with two TDs, and he had 20 tackles, one for loss.

— WR Hyrum Tanner, a junior, had three catches for 62 yards with a TD.

— WR Jacob Puentes, a senior, had two receptions for 61 yards.

— LB Braden Peglow, a senior, tallied 11 tackles.

— DE Michael Cosentino, a junior, had nine tackles, including two for loss (including a sack).

— The Lions (6-2, 2-1 in the 3A South) kept their regional title hopes alive with the significant win at Safford (6-2, 1-1). Kent Middleton’s team rebounded from a loss at Sabino with the win and now they must prepare for another 3A South juggernaut — Thatcher (6-2, 2-0) — for a game at home Friday night. A win will keep Pusch Ridge in play for a 3A South title; a loss would allow Thatcher to be in a commanding position.

— QB Ryan Fontaine, a senior, 14 of 21 passes for 121 yards with two TDs, and he rushed for 67 yards on 10 carries.

— RB Javier Grajeda, a senior, rushed 17 times for 97 yards.

— WR Bubba Mustain, a sophomore, had eight receptions for 80 yards and three TDs.

— LB Jackson Orr, a senior, recorded 14 tackles, one for loss.

— LB Tyler Mustain, a junior, tallied 12 tackles, two for loss (including a sack).

— The Bobcats (5-2, 2-1 in the 2A San Pedro) will try to extend their winning streak to three games when they play at Tombstone (3-5, 0-3) on Friday.

— RB Devin Bowling, a senior, gained 177 yards on 12 carries with two TDs.

— RB Jace Barney, a senior, rushed 13 times for 132 yards with two TDs.

— RB Tristan Martinez, a senior, had 52 yards rushing on nine carries with a TD.

— LB Ryan Francione, a senior, tallied four sacks.

— The Dust Devils (4-4, 2-0 in the 2A Rillito) will try to remain unbeaten in region play Friday traveling to Tanque Verde (4-3, 0-1). The Hawks canceled their non-region game last week at Sabino because of COVID-19 protocol.

— RB/LB Ricardo Alaniz, a senior, gained 241 yards on 24 carries with two TDs, and he had an interception.

— QB Max Rodriguez, a junior, had 75 yards on nine rushes with a TD.

— The Eagles (1-5, 1-0 in the 2A Rillito) ended a 10-game losing streak dating to the 2019 season with the win over Catalina (1-7, 0-3). Tom Joseph’s team next hosts Sequoia Pathway (5-3, 2-1) in a regional game on Friday.

— WR/DB Tyrese Linebarger, a senior, scored on touchdown runs of 20, 10, 19, 50 and 39 yards.

— QB Marreil Styles, a senior, scored on an 18-yard run.


— The Trojans will host Trivium Prep in a non-region game Friday before playing their last game of the season on Oct. 29 at home against Tanque Verde in a 2A Rillito game.


No. 3 St. David 65, No. 7 Hayden 20

— St. David finished their regular season 9-1 with a 1A South title after going 6-0 in regional play. The Tigers are the No. 2 seed in the upcoming 1A state playoffs. They have a bye this week before hosting a quarterfinal game Oct. 29 against an opponent to be determined.

— QB Ryan Gooding, a junior, completed 22 of 36 passes for 358 yards with five TDs.

— RB/LG Talon Haynie, a senior, gained 236 yards on 27 carries with two TDs, and he had 13 tackles, three for loss (all sacks).

— WR/DB Cody Didion, a senior, had six catches for 83 yards and a TD, and he recorded a sack.

— WR/DB Conner Curtis, a junior, hauled in two passes for 74 yards and a TD, and he registered 11 tackles.

— WR Jake Goodman, a senior, tallied three catches for 64 yards and a TD.

— WR Jeremiah Toyota-Gill, a senior, had four receptions for 54 yards and a TD.

— LB Brayden Merrill, a senior, had 10 tackles, one for loss.

— The Miners (7-1, 5-1 in the 1A South) qualified for the 1A state playoffs as an at-large team and the fifth-seeded Miners will host No. 12 Tempe Prep (5-3) on Friday in a first-round game.

— QB/DB Ralphie Valencia, a junior, completed 3 of 5 passes for 84 yards with two TDs, and he rushed three times for 105 yards with a TD. On defense, he finished with seven tackles.

— RB/LB Noah Huerta, a senior, had seven rushes for 136 yards with three TDs, and he had two interceptions.

— WR Tony Guisa Jr., a junior, produced 77 yards on two receptions, both for TDs.

— LB Isaiah Lopez, a senior, finished with 18 tackles.


— The Warriors finish their season 2-4 overall under second-year coach Pete Delgado with all the games in 1A South play after their first three games were postponed or canceled because of COVID-19 protocol.

— The Blue Devils, 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the 1A South, qualified for the 1A state playoffs as the No. 11 seed out of 12 teams. They play in the first round Friday at No. 6 Hayden (4-3).

— The Mountain Lions (2-4, 1-0 in the 5A Southern) ended their three-game losing streak with the win at Tucson High over the Caballeros (3-4, 0-1). Matt Johnson’s team will try for a 2-0 start in region play hosting No. 1 Desert View (5-1, 0-1) on Friday.

— QB William Howell, a sophomore, completed 9 of 13 passes for 208 yards with four TDs.

— QB Josh Roman, a junior, passed for 61 yards while completing 5 of 7 passes, and he rushed for 44 yards on five carries with a TD.

— RB Tariq Booker, a junior, had 54 yards on 11 carries.

— WR Dillon Johnson, a junior, had three receptions for 80 yards and a TD.

— WR Deven Sanchez, a senior, finished with three catches for 62 yards.

— WR Dillon Arvayo, a senior, had 99 yards receiving and a TD on three catches.


— The Caballeros look to get back on track Friday at Buena (1-4, 0-0). They hope to play their first game on their home turf Nov. 5 against Cholla. Their field is undergoing renovations.
