No. 3 Salpointe 38, No. 26 Mountain View 14

MOUNTAIN VIEW

— The Mountain Lions (3-6, 2-2 5A Southern) conclude their season at Buena on Friday.

— WR Dillon Arvayo, a senior, caught five passes for 77 yards.

SALPOINTE

— The Lancers (7-2, 3-0 5A Southern) look to finish strong before the 5A state playoffs with a road game at Flowing Wells on Friday.

— QB Treyson Bourguet, a senior, completed 18 of 26 passes for 194 yards with a TD.

— RB Anthony Wilhite Jr., a senior, rushed for 153 yards on 21 carries with two TDs.

— RB Dailan Goodman, a junior, gained 71 yards on four carries with a TD.

— DE Damian Coley, a junior, had three tackles for loss.

— LB Joey Sumlin, a senior, had an interception.

DESERT VIEW

— The Jaguars (8-1, 3-1 5A Southern) look to beat Cholla in the regular-season finale to strengthen their chance to host in the first round of the 5A state playoffs.

— DE William Stemler, a senior, had 12 tackles, one for loss.

— LB Rhubin Harris, a senor, finished with 11 tackles.

— CB Brett Santa Maria, a senior, had 10 tackles.

CIENEGA

— The Bobcats (7-3, 5-0 clinched the 5A Sonoran title with the victory. They won this week’s game against Rincon/University by forfeit. Cienega coach Justin Argraves mentioned the coaches will assess the situation before trying to schedule a replacement game.

— RB/LB Ritchie McCormack, a senior, had 111 yards on 13 carries with one TD, and he had 13 tackles.

— RB Edgar Garcia, a junior, rushed for 100 yards on nine carries with two TDs.

— CB Gunnar Hernandez, a senior, returned an interception 30 yards for a TD.

— CB Jimmy Diaz, a sophomore, had a pick-6 of 35 yards.

MARANA

— The Tigers (7-2, 3-1 5A Sonoran) look to end the season strong and potentially earn the chance to host in the opening round of the 5A state playoffs when they host Ironwood Ridge on Friday.

— QB Elijah Joplin, a junior, completed 25 of 34 passes for 277 yards with a TD.

— RB Matthew Jenson, a junior, had 51 yards rushing on 13 carries, and had eight catches for 96 yards.

— WR Dezmen Roebuck, a freshman, tallied nine receptions for 73 yards and a TD.

— WR Sam Brown, a junior, caught seven passes for 108 yards.

— LB Troy Fox, a senior, had eight tackles, including one for loss.

— Nogales (3-6. 1-3 5A Sonoran) hosts Sunnyside on Senior Night on Friday in the season finale.

— LB Samuel Ocampo, a sophomore, tallied eight tackles including two for loss.

— CB Alex Armendariz, a senior, had seven tackles including one for loss.

IRONWOOD RIDGE

— The Nighthawks (5-4, 3-1 5A Sonoran) are playing for a potential 5A state playoff spot when they play at Marana on Friday.

— QB Tyler Haynie, a senior, completed 8 of 10 passes for 159 yards with five TDs.

— RB Landon Billings, a senior, rushed for 162 yards on seven carries with a TD.

— RB Jordan Thomas, a junior, caught four passes for 82 yards and two TDs.

— DE Sam Benjamin, a senior, had six tackles, including three sacks.

— LB Travis Rich, a junior, returned an interception for a TD and a fumble recovery for a TD.

— CB Luke Fanelli, a senior, had a pick-6.

— DE Ian Van der Merwe, a senior, returned a fumble for a TD.

CHOLLA

— The Chargers (1-6, 0-2 5A Southern) conclude their regular season at home against Desert View on Friday.

FLOWING WELLS

— The Caballeros (4-6, 1-3 5A Southern) finally had the chance to play a home game with their field’s renovation project complete. They finish their season with one last game at home this season Friday when Salpointe visits.

No. 22 Sunnyside over No. 42 Rincon/UHS, forfeit

SUNNYSIDE

— Sunnyside (5-4, 1-3 5A Sonoran) plays for a winning season when the Blue Devils travel to Nogales on Friday.

RINCON/UHS

— The Rangers (1-9, 0-5 5A Sonoran) have concluded their season after having to forfeit their last two games because of a lack of healthy players.

4A

No. 19 Mica Mountain 45, No. 24 Amphitheater 13

AMPHI

— The Panthers (4-4, 1-2 4A Gila) look to end their three-game losing streak and achieve a winning season when they travel to Rio Rio on Friday.

MICA MOUNTAIN

— The Thunderbolts (3-2) are on the brink of a possible spot in the 4A state playoff appearance in their first varsity season. They travel to No. 17 Bradshaw Mountain (6-3) on Friday in a game that was not scheduled as of last month. Mica Mountain will reach the six-game minimum with the game.

— QB Aaron Rodarte, a junior, completed 6 of 7 passes for 76 yards with two TDs.

— QB Jayden Thoreson, a freshman, completed 7 of 12 passes for 131 yards.

— RB Josiah Thornwell, a freshman, gained 104 yards on six carries, including an 84-yard scoring run.

— WR Jailen Clark, a sophomore, had three catches for 62 yards.

— LB Kason Colbert, a sophomore, finished with a team-high 11 tackles, an interception return for a touchdown of 40 yards and a blocked field goal.

No. 28 Catalina Foothills 49, No. 31 Empire 14

CATALINA FOOTHILLS

Daniel Sainz, in his first year as head coach, led Catalina Foothills led the Falcons (5-4, 3-0 4A Gila) to a region title. They host Douglas on Friday for the opportunity at a winning season. Making the 4A state playoffs will be difficult because of their current ranking of No. 28. The top 16-rated teams qualify. Region champs do not automatically qualify for the state playoffs in 4A.

EMPIRE

— The Ravens (5-5, 3-1 4A Gila) conclude their regular season with a recently scheduled game at Phoenix Sunnyslope on Friday.

No. 32 Walden Grove 38, No. 41 Sahuaro 21

SAHUARO

— The Cougars (1-7, 1-2 4A Kino) conclude their season hosting CDO on Friday.

WALDEN GROVE

— The Red Wolves (3-6, 1-2 4A Kino) put an end to their five-game losing streak. They are scheduled tto finish the season at home Friday against Pueblo.

— QB Gabriel Smith, a sophomore, completed 15 of 19 passes for 283 yards with four TDs.

— RB Merrick Igasan, a junior, gained 67 yards on 11 carries.

— WR/DB Caleb Lyden, a junior, had four catches for 137 yards with two TDs, and he two interceptions and nine tackles.

— WR Duncan Hoover, a senior, finished with five receptions for 67 yards and a TD.

— LB Ronnie Berg, a senior, tallied 12 tackles.

— DE Jeffrey Headlong, a senior, had nine tackles, 2.5 for loss, including a sack.

RIO RICO

— The Hawks (0-7, 0-3 4A Gila) conclude their season with a home game Friday against Amphi.

DOUGLAS

— The Bulldogs (2-5, 1-2 4A Gila) put an end to their five-game losing streak. The finish the season Friday at Catalina Foothills.

3A

No. 10 Thatcher 35, No. 7 Pusch Ridge 26

PUSCH RIDGE

— The Lions finished the season 8-3, giving second-year coach Kent Middleton a 16-5 record and two state playoff appearances to this point. Pusch Ridge is slated to have one of the best senior classes locally next season with linebacker Tyler Mustain, defensive tackle Will Way and receiver Bryce Jewell. Pusch Ridge loses prolific-passing quarterback Ryan Fontaine, but don’t be surprised if heralded receiver/defensive back Bubba Mustain, a Class of 2024 standout, takes over at that position. He led the 13U Oro Valley Dolphins to the TYFSF city title in 2019 as the quarterback. Tyler Mustain did not play against Thatcher because of an ankle injury, which impacted the Lions greatly.

— QB Ryan Fontaine, a senior, completed 25 of 38 passes for 275 yards with a TD.

— WR Bubba Mustain, a sophomore, finished with 12 catches for 125 yards, and he had 11 tackles.

— WR Bryce Jewell, a junior, had six receptions for 55 yards.

— WR Cody Rafacz, a junior, finished with two catches for 62 yards.

— LB Ethan Jones, a senior, tallied 17 tackles and had a blocked field goal.

No. 9 Sabino 29, No. 8 Show Low 20

SABINO

The ninth-seeded Sabercats (8-2) took the almost four-hour bus trip to Show Low with a mid-day stop at Globe to stretch their legs and work out briefly before winning 29-20 to advance to the 3A state quarterfinals. Ryan McBrayer’s team will have a rematch Friday with top seed ALA-Gilbert North (9-1) of the game in Week 3 that the Sabercats lost 33-21 at home.

— QB Cameron Hackworth, a sophomore, completed 16 of 23 passes for 200 yards with three TDs, and he rushed for 53 yards on eight carries.

— RB Kenneth Blackman, a senior, rushed for 81 yards on nine carries with a TD.

— WR/DB Derek Sanchez, a senior, finished with five receptions for 60 yards and a TD and an interception.

— WR/DB Kamden Gambrell, a senior, had a 56-yard TD reception, and he had eight tackles.

— LB Zachary Tolson, a senior, had 15 tackles.

— LB Marius Lester, a senior, finished with 10 tackles.

— LB Mason Cade, a sophomore, tallied two sacks.

2A FIRST ROUND

No. 3 Benson 49, No. 14 Sequoia Pathway 7

BENSON

— No. 3 Benson (9-2) advanced to the 2A quarterfinals with the victory. The Bobcats, who made it to the 2A title game last year with no seniors, will host St. Johns (7-4) on Friday.

— QB Brok Determan, a senior, completed two passes, both for TDs, out of three attempts for 54 yards.

— RB/LB Devin Bowling, a senior, finished with 143 yards on 15 carries with a TD, and he had eight tackles, one for loss.

— RB Jace Barney, a senior, had nine rushes for 72 yards and two TDs.

— DB Angel Rigney, a junior, returned an interception 55 yards for a TD.

No. 8 Willcox 42, No. 9 Holbrook 32

WILLCOX

— The eighth-seeded Cowboys (8-2) advance to the 2A quarterfinals where they will play at No. 1 Parker (10-0) on Friday. The distance from Willcox to Parker is more than 350 miles.

— RB/LB Cristian Pando, a junior, gained 208 yards on 31 carries with five TDs, and he had a team-high 13 tackles with three interceptions.

— RB Marcus Olivares, a senior, rushed for 122 yards on 18 carries with a TD.

— DT Mike Martinez, a junior, had 10 tackles.

— LB Evann Truschke, a junior, finished with nine tackles.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 6

1A SEMIFINALS

No. 3 Williams vs. No. 2 St. David

ST. DAVID

— The No. 2 Tigers (10-1) will play top seed Mogollon (11-0) at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Scottsdale Coronado for their first state title since 2001.

— QB Ryan Gooding, a junior who earned AllSportsTucson.com APS Digital Print/Frog & Firkin Player of the Week honors last week, completed 21 of 34 passes for 360 yards and four TDs.

— RB/LB Talon Haynie, a senior, gained 190 yards on 27 carries, and he had 15 tackles, two for loss.

–WR Jake Goodman, a senior, had nine catches for 205 yards.

–LB Conner Curtis, a junior, tallied 23 tackles with eight for loss.

–DT Bobcat Pacheco, a senior, had 13 tackles, six for loss including two sacks.

–S Koy Richardson, a junior, had his sixth interception of the season.
