Former Palo Verde standout Kiana Ortiz set javelin record in college

Former Palo Verde standout Kiana Ortiz set a new distance record in the javelin throw for Culver-Stockton at the Viking Relays held at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday.

Ortiz won the javelin competition with a throw of 105 feet, breaking the previous school record of 103 feet, 1 inch set six years ago. Ortiz also plays basketball for Culver-Stockton along with her sister Aaliyah Ortiz.

Andy Morales was recognized by the AIA as the top high school reporter in 2014, he was awarded the Ray McNally Award in 2017, a 2019 AZ Education News award winner and he has been a youth, high school and college coach for over 30 years.
