Tanque Verde Hawks
2021 RECORD: 6-3
- The Jay Dobyns era at Tanque Verde is in its third year after the Hawks went 3-0 in the COVID-19-shortened season of 2020 and 6-3 last year. The program did not have a winning record in the 13 seasons prior to Dobyns’ hire.
- Tanque Verde gets a “bye” to start the season before playing 10 consecutive weeks — a scheduling mistake the AIA has to address in the future.
- The non-region schedule includes the season-opening game at Morenci on Aug. 26 followed by a game at home against Valley Lutheran on Sept. 2, a game at Pima on Sept. 9 and then two home games against San Tan Charter on Sept. 16 and North Pointe Prep.
- Morenci finished 11-2 last season after losing in the 2A championship game against Arizona Lutheran. Valley Lutheran was 4-4. Pima finished 7-4 with a loss to Arizona Lutheran in the quarterfinals. San Tan Charter was 5-5 including a 42-33 loss at home against Tanque Verde. North Pointe Prep finished 2-7.
- Tanque Verde’s 2A San Pedro schedule includes games at Santa Rita (Sept. 30), Bisbee (Oct. 14) and Tombstone (Oct. 21) and home games against Catalina (Oct. 7) and Willcox (Oct. 28).
