PODCAST: Arizona at WCWS discussion with beat writers Kim Doss & Troy Hutchison

Arizona will attempt to keep its season alive Friday night in the Women’s College World Series elimination-bracket game with Pac-12 rival Oregon State at Oklahoma City, and Kim Doss of AZDesertSwarm.com and Troy Hutchison of GOAZCATS.com will be there as Wildcat beat reporters.

This podcast was taped less than three hours ahead of the game between the Wildcats (38-21) and Beavers (39-21).

Among the topics discussed:

  • Will Oregon State ace pitcher and slugger Mariah Mazon play? She missed Thursday’s opening-round game against No. 14 Florida for an undisclosed reason. Mazon is 17-11 with a 1.60 ERA with 220 strikeouts and 38 walks. At the plate, she is batting .366 with 12 home runs and is tied for the team RBI lead at 40 with Frankie Hammoud.
  • Will Caitlin Lowe go with Devyn Netz in the circle and bring in Hanah Bowen if necessary? Netz has pitched three times in the postseason, including in one inning of relief of Bowen in Thursday’s 4-2 loss to Oklahoma State. She has allowed eight hits in 15 innings with one earned run, six strikeouts and six walks in the postseason. Her ERA in the three postseason games is 0.47.
  • Will Arizona string some runs together against Oregon State and/or continue to come up with huge home runs as its scoring source? Sharlize Palacios hit her third home run of the postseason in the loss to Oklahoma State. Arizona has 10 home runs in the postseason that have accounted for 14 of the Wildcats’ 23 runs in the postseaon
