The RSL-AZ Southern AZ 08 girls team completed group play Thursday in the Development Player League National Championships with an unbeaten record of 3-0 and it will move on to Saturday’s semifinal round in the event at Dallas.

The 08 team, with a season record of 13-0-1, will face Southern California’s FRAM SC 08G team on Saturday at 6:30 a.m., Tucson time. FRAM also went 3-0 in its group competition.

The teams played each other during the season in a national showcase (that did not factor into the overall record) and FRAM beat the 08 team 6-2.

“We will be ready for revenge,” mentioned RSL-AZ Southern Az 06 & 08 Girls coach Paul DesRosier.

The RSL-AZ Southern AZ 06 girls team won its last match in the national tournament on Thursday, defeating Boston’s NEFC NS Girls 2006 team by a score of 3-2.

The 06 team was 1-1-1 in its group competition to finish with four points.

Alexa Romero scored the lone goal in the RSL-AZ Southern AZ 08 team’s 1-0 win Thursday over the Cape Coral (Fla.) Soccer Girls Cyclones Black U14 team.

The game was played in 104-degree weather with 45 percent humidity.

“Honestly, this game should not have never been played,” DesRosier said. “Alexa Romero scored the game on a perfectly struck free kick in the eighth minute. After that, the players pretty much tried not to die from the heat.”

The 06 team defeated Boston’s NEFC NS Girls 2006 team by a score of 3-2 with goals by Ashley Martinez, Vivien Villarreal and Gabi Mendoza.

“Great way to finish with the hard win,” DesRosier said.
