Pima Soccer Update: Nicholas Bianchi leads the men with a hat trick and the women complete the sweep at Scottsdale

The Pima men improved to 8-1-1 overall and 5-1-1 in ACCAC play after beating Scottsdale 5-1 Tuesday night.

Nicholas Bianchi put the Aztecs ahead 1-0 with a goal in the 29th minute that was assisted by Fernando Garate (Salpointe). Bianchi finished with a hat trick, finding the back of the net in the 73rd and 76th minutes. He has scored eight goals in the last three games.

The Artichokes tied the game at 1-1 early in the second half after a goal by Josemaria Tapia in the 54th minute.

Cristian Gutierrez (Cholla) put the Aztecs ahead for good with his goal in the 66th minute and Ernesto Osornio added an insurance goal a minute later with an assist from Brian Vu (Rincon/UHS). Osornio and Eduardo Saucedo had the assists in Bianchi’s final two goals.

Aztecs keeper Cristian Sattin had four saves. The Pima men will host Yavapai on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

The Pima women improved to 9-1 overall and 6-1 in ACCAC play after beating Scottsdale 2-0.

Meredith Scott (Walden Grove) put the Aztecs on the board in the 27th minute with her header into the goal with an assist by Nayeli Vidal (Sahuaro).

Delaney Buntin (Cienega) added a goal in the 56th minute. Savannah Gutierrez (Tucson) had the assist. Angelina Amparano (Salpointe) finished with five saves.

“I thought we did really well on our transition from offense to defense tonight and making sure everyone was in their position to win the ball back,” Buntin said in a release. “We knew it was imperative to come home with a win tonight because both teams only lost one game and it was important for us to have the right mentality for the game.”
