RESHEA BRISTOL IS BACK IN THE OLD PUEBLO

Former University of Arizona standout Reshea Bristol is back in town after 16 years as a pro and several more years as an assistant coach with Nebraska Christian. Bristol is a top-level referee who will be working junior college and high school games locally.

TITUS PALMER HAS SEASON-ENDING SURGERY

Sahuaro senior Titus Palmer scored 22 points to help Sahuaro come back from a 15-point deficit to help defeat ALA-Gilbert North 77-65 in the quarterfinal round of the Aztec Christmas Classic Wednesday night. The Cougars will face Tucson High Thursday night in the semifinals but the team will be without Palmer the rest of the season. Palmer has been playing with a broken hip and he is scheduled to have surgery Thursday. He will be a preferred walk-on for Grand Canyon while rehabbing. Palmer was averaging 15.5 points a game while injured.

DELANEY SCHNELL WINS NATIONAL 10-METER PLATFORM TITLE

Former Tucson High and University of Arizona standout Delaney Schnell scored 646.40 points to capture her first senior national title, and fourth overall, at the USA Diving Winter National Championships held in West Virginia.

FLOWING WELLS STANDOUT RICHARD LEGARRA FOLLOWS FAMILY LEGACY

Flowing Wells 6-foot-5 senior Richard Legarra was our 2022 Division II Track Field Athlete of the Year and he is a standout basketball player for the Caballeros. His mother, Amee, was a standout athlete at Flowing Wells and a nationally recognized educator, his father, Richard, was a thrower for the University of Arizona Track and Field team, his sister, Amya, helped Canyon del Oro win a state softball championship and played for Utah State, and his aunt, Abyee Maracigan, helped lead Flowing Wells to a basketball state championship and she earned two All-American honors with Pima before heading off to Idaho State.

CHIEFS SIGN MATT BUSHMAN TO PRACTICE SQUAD

Former Sabino standout Matt Bushman was signed to the Kansas City Chief’s practice squad on Tuesday as a tight end. Bushman had a great preseason with the Chiefs but an injury ultimately led to being waived from the injured reserve list.

PIMA AZTEC CHRISTMAS CLASSIC TO SEMIFINAL ROUND

Tucson, Sahuaro, Chandler and ALA-Ironwood are in the Pima Aztec Christmas Classic semifinals to be played Thursday night.
