Noteworthy: Molly Garnand, who reached 1,000 career points in the Hawks’ 55-20 win over Florence on Tuesday, committed to Westmont and is a four-year starter. … Vienna Elliott, niece of legendary Arizona basketball player Sean Elliott, is also a four-year starter and who has the potential to play volleyball in college. … Jazmyn Schrader is another senior who is one of Tvrdy’s top defensive players. … Tvrdy, who coached Pusch Ridge to four straight state titles from 2004-05 to 2007-08, is the second-leading coach in career victories in Southern Arizona behind Sahuaro’s Steve Botkin (608-189 in his 28th year). Tvrdy is 426-136 in his 20th season at the varsity level at Pusch Ridge. … The Lions are 8-7 this season.
Coach’s comment: “If we learn to play together with our seniors and our young players we have a chance to be a good team at the end of the year. Our challenge is to learn to play with composure regardless of what is happening during a particular game.”
