IZZY’S POV: First week back!

Hi Wildcat Fans!

This was our first week back as a team since our Winter Break. We spent this week practicing, scrimmaging against each other and just getting back to our routine. Everyone was so excited to be back together and to continue working towards meeting our goals. We are a young team with so much talent and potential. Every single player on our team works hard and is willing to do whatever it takes to win. This team is filled with great people who want the best for each other and our chemistry is one of the best I have ever been a part of.

Our number one team goal is to win a national championship. We want to put all of our pieces together and play this game at a high level all season. I really do believe that this is the team to do this with. As a bonus, we are having fun every step of the way! We are getting closer to the start of the season and we are hoping to see lots of Wildcat fans cheering us on. We play Long Beach State on February 9th at 6:00 p.m. at Rita Hillenbrand for our first game of the season.

My personal goals for this season are to enjoy every single moment I am on the field and to give it everything that I have. This season will be the end of my playing career and I have so many emotions about it. I feel lucky to be a kid from Tucson who graduated college, went to the WCWS 3 times, and is planning on going one more time!

I have learned a lot from time here at Arizona. One of the best things Coach Candrea ever told me was, “Be where your feet are.” It taught me that mentality had to be dialed in to where my feet were or else I wouldn’t be giving it my all. It also showed me that I belong wherever my feet are. As a freshman on one of the best teams in the country, it was hard for me to accept that I belonged on the same field as them. Now as a fifth-year senior, I know I belong and try to make all of my teammates feel the same. Each player has something to offer a team, no matter how old they are.

To end the column for this week I wanted to share the pitching/catching camps that myself, Taylor McQuillin, Greg McQuillin, and Devyn Netz are putting on starting this Sunday. If you want to learn and get better in January, come join us!
