D3 Boys Wrestling: Sahuarita repeat champs behind three state titlists

PHOENIX — Sahuarita won its second consecutive D3 state championship and neighboring school Walden Grove finished third Saturday night at the Veteran Memorial Coliseum.

The Mustangs accomplished three state championships in these weight classes:

138 — Christian Lopez, a senior with his first state title

150 — Gabriel Gallardo, a sophomore repeat champion

157 — Julian Prieto, a senior repeat champion

Sahuarita also had six top-6 finishers: Daniel Guerrero (second/106 pounds), Sebastian Serrano (second/113), Justin Fox (second/120), Isaiah Miller (second/132), Sergio Pena (fourth/144) and Adrian Nemer (fifth/165).

Walden Grove’s Zachary Bates won the 120-pound championship after winning at 113 last year, and Pedro Mendoza took home the 126-pound title after accomplishing the same feat at 120 last year.

Mica Mountain senior Joshua Beans led the Thunderbolts, in their second year of varsity competition, to a fourth-place finish. He won the 132-pound title.
