Hi Wildcat fans!

We got back from our 10-day trip Saturday night, and it was a pretty good one. We learned a lot about each other, about the team we want to be and what we need to do next to reach our goals. Our season is filled with ups and downs, as individuals and as a team, but the most important thing for us to do is stick together. Our foundation is strong, and we have all of the right pieces to win those big games. We went 5-5 against great teams and we have so much more room to grow. Excited for what’s to come for this team and our season! Our next home game is Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Cal State Bakersfield.

I wanted to spotlight another one of our freshmen, Kaiah Altmeyer. Kaiah has been a huge contributor to this team on and off the field. She is a true utility player — she can play infield or outfield, she hits for power from the left side and she slaps. One of her best tools as a player is that she is quick. Not only is she a great player but she is such a kind and genuine person off the field. She cares for all of us and truly wants the best for each and every one of us. One thing that Kaiah does that separates her from the rest of us is the work she puts in. She is always doing five more reps in the weight room, taking more swings in BP, and doing extra sprints at the end of conditioning. Kaiah wears the Block A with so much pride and I am so happy she’s on our team. Kaiah is from San Diego and loves being here in Tucson. I asked Kaiah what her biggest challenge has been this year and here’s what she said, “My biggest challenge this year was finding the right mindset every day. Remembering to be thankful and know how lucky I am to be able to play a college sport and get an education.”

When we are faced with challenges, we go to our support system for help. Kaiah’s biggest supporter is her older sister. “Although my whole family is behind me and supportive, my oldest sister has been in my shoes and she truly wants the best for me and always has my back,” Kaiah said (Sierra Altmeyer played softball at UC Santa Barbara). Kaiah also enjoys Facetiming her dad to see her pets at home. A couple of fun facts about Kaiah are that she loves listening to country, rap and R&B. One of her favorite artists is Otis Redding. She enjoys walking her dog on the beach and watching sunsets. Her goal is to become a nurse and eventually go into Botox.
