Baja Arizona Notes: Charles Croci to wrestle for New Mexico Highlands; Oro Valley LAX Sunday Fundays; American Legion Schedule; Sun Belt All-Star Game

CHARLES CROCI TO NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS

Former Canyon del Oro wrestler Charles Croci announced his commitment to compete for New Mexico Highlands, located in Las Vegas, New Mexico. The Cowboys compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Croci was a 4-time state qualifier with a runner-up finish in 2023 in the 157-pound division and in 2022 in the 150-pound division.

ORO VALLEY LACROSSE SUNDAY FUN DAYS

The Oro Valley Lacrosse Club is hosting “Sunday Fundays” every Sunday in June and July at Naranja Park at 5 p.m. Open play from 4 vs. 3 and full field pick up games. All teams and players are invited.

ROBERT SANCHEZ TO LUNA CC

Sahuarita center fielder Robert Sanchez announced his commitment to play for the Luna CC Rough Riders located just north of Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Post 8 Vista Grande Spartans and Post 7 Tucson High were both 3-0 heading into this week. Here is the schedule.

SUN BELT ALL-STAR GAME

The Sun Belt College All-Star Game is slated for Sunday, July 2 at Kino Stadium. The Northwest Nighthawks and the Old Tucson Gauchos are both 5-1 at this point.

Named one of “Arizona’s Heart & Sol” by KOLD and Casino del Sol, Andy Morales was recognized by the AIA as the top high school reporter in 2014, he was awarded the Ray McNally Award in 2017 and a 2019 AZ Education News recognition. He was a youth, high school and college coach for over 30 years. He was the first in Arizona to write about high school beach volleyball and high school girls wrestling and his unique perspective can only be found here and on AZPreps365.com. Andy is a Southern Arizona voting member of the Ed Doherty Award, recognizing the top football player in Arizona, and he was named a Local Hero by the Tucson Weekly for 2016. Andy was named an Honorary Flowing Wells Caballero in 2019, became a member of the Sunnyside Los Mezquites Cross Country Hall of Fame in 2021 and he was a member of the Amphi COVID-19 Blue Ribbon Committee.
