2023 football: 50 top Southern Arizona seniors — CDO running back Jose Alba

Hard to believe but today marks only 49 days until the kickoff of the 2023 Southern Arizona high school football season with games scheduled Aug. 18. AllSportsTucson.com is listing 50 of the top seniors in Southern Arizona during this stretch. This is not a ranking. This is a list in alphabetical order. We acknowledge more than 50 quality seniors will play on high school fields locally this fall and we will report on them accordingly.

Jose Alba, 5-foot-6 and 165 pounds, was thrusted into a leadership role as a junior last season and he responded by rushing for 768 yards on 113 carries with six touchdowns. In his two-year varsity career to this point, Alba has gained 1,210 on 214 rushes with 11 touchdowns. … “Jose Alba is probably the most under-the-radar player on our team,” CDO coach Dustin Peace stated. “He has led our team in overall rushing for the past two seasons. If you walk by him in the halls, you wouldn’t think he leads our rushing attack, but you cannot teach the toughness he has. His ability to see the hole and be physical between the tackles is he fits so well in what we do.” … Alba is expected to be physical linebacker with quickness and agility this season. “He has become quite the leader for this team entering his third year on the varsity,” Peace stated. “This year, he has emerged on the defensive side of the ball as well, so you won’t see him coming off the field very often on Friday nights.” … Alba was chosen by coaches as the All-4A Kino second-team running back last season.
