Tucson Saguaros improve to 26-9 with win over Austin Weirdos

The first-place Tucson Saguaros improved to 26-9 with a 12-11 victory Thursday night over the Austin Weirdos in a Pecos Independent League game at Kino Stadium.

The second game of the three-game series at Kino Stadium with Austin (1-31) is Friday at 7 p.m.

The Saguaros, who have already qualified for the postseason out of the Mountain Division, were led by 3-for-5 performances by Ryan Murphy, Steve Joyner and DeShawn Johnson.

Murphy also hit a double and triple and produced four RBIs. Joyner and Johnson each hit doubles.

Murphy is from Rowan University at Glassboro, N.J., Joyner played at Claflin University at Orangeburg, S.C., and Johnson attended Cal State San Bernardino.

Kirkland Trahan, of Delta State, went 2 for 5 with three runs, two doubles and two RBIs for the Saguaros.
