Rincon beat Prescott Valley 19-0 in the opening round of the Arizona State 8-10 playoffs taking place at the Purple Heart Park Complex near Vail Saturday night. The District 12 representative collected 16 hits on the night with Calvin Williams, Hunter Russell, Braxton Sapp and Grant Barnes taking turns on the mound. CDO, the District 5 champion, held off Casa Grande behind the pitching of Connor O’Shea to start the game and Theo Honke III with the save. O’Shea did not allow a hit in three innings and he struck out four batters. Honke allowed one hit in the sixth inning but prevented Casa Grande from rallying to finish the game. Honke’s run-scoring single in the third was part of a two-run rally that put CDO ahead 4-1. A two-run double by AJ Bourland in the first inning gave CDO a 2-1 lead. Casa Grande rallied for two runs with no outs in the fourth to cut the lead. CDO quelled the rally by getting three straight outs.

Rincon advanced to the championship round Tuesday with the victory over Nogales. Hudson Haner struck out 15 batters while allowing only four hits in his six innings of work. After Haner was hit by a pitch with one out in the first, Christian Diaz singled. They both scored on throwing errors after Nathan Ventura’s single. Haner’s pitching kept Rincon ahead the rest of the way. Nogales took advantage of an error in the fifth inning to score its lone run.
