Tucson wrestler Elizabeth Valenzuela Smith reaches semifinals of 16U Fargo nationals

Elizabeth Valenzuela Smith, a nationally-ranked wrestler from Tucson, went 4-0 Saturday to reach the semifinals in the 100-pound competition of the prestigious 16U Fargo (N.D.) National Championships.

Valenzuela Smith will wrestle Madison Nieuwenhuis of Vicksburg, Mich., in the semifinals on Sunday morning. If Valenzuela Smith wins, she advances to the championship Sunday night.

Valenzuela Smith, who will be a freshman at Pueblo this school year, ranks No. 24 in the nation at 100 pounds in the latest ratings released by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, USA Wrestling and FloWrestling.

She pinned her first two opponents Saturday and then won by technical fall over the last two.
