Gauchos & Gamblers to meet in Sun Belt College League championship series

The Old Tucson Gauchos and Speedway Gamblers advanced to the Sun Belt College League championship series by sweeping their respective semifinal series, culminating Friday night at the Kino Sports Complex.

The Gauchos, the No. 1 seed, will play the fourth-seeded Gamblers in a best-of-three series that starts Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Kino Annex Field No. 5. Game 2 is Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. A third game, if necessary, will be Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The Gauchos eliminated the Old Pueblo Kings 6-2 on Friday night behind the complete-game pitching performed from Marana graduate Gabe Ridenour (Pima College), who struck out 13 and allowed four hits.

Sabino graduate Justin Nichols (Northwest Oklahoma State) and Sunnyside alum Jovanni Toledo each had two hits and Luis Lizarraga drove in two runs for the Gauchos.

The Speedway Gamblers advanced to their second straight league championship series by eliminating the Northwest Nighthawks by a score of 7-1 on Friday night.

Jacob Marshall (Eastern Arizona College) pitched eight innings, allowing three hits and striking out 11, was the winning pitcher for the Gamblers

Ironwood Ridge alum Tae Kim drove in the only Nighthawk run. Joseph Roman (Delta College, Calif.) had a double for the Nighthawks.
