Former Salpointe standout Gianna Mares played in the Premier Girls Fastpitch (PGF) High School All-American Game on Saturday, July 29 in Irvine, California. Mares, a BYU freshman, was the 2023 Southern Arizona Stacy Redondo Player of the Year and the 2022 Pitcher of the Year after winning back-to-back 4A state championships from the circle. Mares got the best of former Greenway pitcher Kaitlyn Terry in the 2023 championship game with a 2-0 victory over the UCLA commit. Mares and Terry were teammates on the West All-Star Team,
Mares was also a 2023 First Team MaxPreps All-American after earning Second Team honors in 2022.
Current University of Arizona sophomore Dakota Kennedy served as one of the coaches for the West Team.
