Sunnyside’s Audrey Jimenez named 2022-23 USA Today Girls Wrestler of the Year

Sunnyside senior Audrey Jimenez has been named the 2022-2023 USA Today High School Sports Awards (HSSA) Girls Wrestler of the Year, picked from a list of 25 nominees from all 50 states and District of Columbia.

Winners were selected in 31 individual sports.

The USA Today HSSA is the largest high school athletic recognition program in the country. 

Jimenez is also recognized as the top high school female wrestler pound-for-pound in the nation at 106 pounds by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, USA Wrestling and FloWrestling.

Among Jimenez’s many accomplishments:

— 2022-23 USA Today HSSA Girls Wrestler of the Year
— 2021-22 & 2022-23 Ranked No. 1 in girls’ high school pound-for-pound rankings
— 2023 Gran Prix of Spain bronze medalist (50kg) representing Team USA.
— 2023 US Open champion (50 kg)
— 2023 U20 World Team Trials champion (50 kg)
— 2023 AIA state champion (114 pounds)
— 2022 U20 World silver medalist (50 kg)
— 2022 U17 World teamer (49 kg)
— 2022 AIA state champion (106 pounds)
— 2021 U17 World bronze medalist (49 kg)
— 2021 AIA state champion (113 pounds)
