Tucson beats New Mexico in American Legion play; Randolph loses open game at Junior West Regionals and Canon View is getting ready for West Region Little League play

JUNIOR WEST REGION: BEND, OREGON
Northern California 12, Randolph 6

Randolph led 3-2 after the second inning and 4-2 in the top of the third but Northern California scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning to change momentum at the Junior West Regional taking place in Bend, Oregon this week. Northern California went on to win 12-6, sending Randolph to an elimination game on Saturday where the team will face Idaho at 10 a.m.

Idaho lost to Southern California 7-3 to set up the elimination game with Randolph.

AMERICAN LEGION WEST REGION ELIMINATION: FAIRFIELD CA
Tucson 5, New Mexico 4

Facing elimination, Tucson Post 7 defeated Rio Grande, New Mexico 5-4 Thursday morning to advance in the elimination bracket at the American Legion West Region taking place in Fairfield, California this week. Tucson (1-1) will face the host team, Fairfield (1-1) on Friday at 4 p.m. If Tucson wins that game then the team will play on Saturday for a shot at the championship series. Fairfield lost to Utah 8-3 to set up the elimination game with Tucson.

Tucson scored two runs in the top of the first inning on a 2-RBI double from Sebastian Pino and the team went up 5-0 in the second after Abran Vergara doubled with two outs and Gennaro Brito and Aldo Teilon reached on back-to-back hit-by-pitches to load the bases. Maddox Jones knocked in a run and then Jaden Leon picked up an RBI on a walk and that was followed by another bases-loaded walk issued to Pino.

New Mexico scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning but three scoreless innings preserved the victory. Emrick Thompson, Pino, Jordan Lesley and Tenochtli Nepan Ollin took the ball for Tucson.
