Notes: This is QB Cameron Hackworth’s team as a senior and he is driven to lead the Sabercats to a 3A state championship while throwing for more than 4,000 yards and 40 touchdowns. Hackworth could finish his Sabino career as the most prolific dual-threat quarterback in the history of high school football in Southern Arizona. … He completed 177 passes in 259 attempts for 2,720 yards with 31 touchdowns and seven interceptions last season. He rushed for 598 yards on 62 carries with eight touchdowns. … His career totals: 4,926 yards passing (328 of 468) with 57 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and 1,342 yards rushing on 142 carries with 18 touchdowns … Ryan McBrayer has the opportunity to earn his 50th career victory in his eighth year as a head coach. He added former Catalina Foothills assistant and Palo Verde head coach Mike Wells to be the Sabercats’ defensive coordinator, a role he held in previous years. Other than Wells, Ryan McBrayer’s staff has been intact since he became the head coach. That includes his brother Collin McBrayer, the quarterbacks coach who has guided the likes of A.J. Skaggs and Hackworth during his tenure. … The Berryhills (senior Savaughn, junior Shamar and freshman Romeo) are on the same varsity team, a feat recently achieved by the Bourguets at Marana in 2018 (Trenton as a senior, Coben as a junior and Treyson as a freshman). … Savaughn and Shamar Berryhill have the realistic shot of becoming one of the first pairs of receivers on the same team in the state to each reach 1,000 yards in a season. Last season, Shamar had 936 yards on 49 catches with 16 touchdowns and Savaughn 915 yards on 51 receptions. … Hackworth also has quality targets Devon Waxwood, Brit Roberson and Diego Hanrahan. … Skaggs’ younger brother, Jack, is one of the top linebackers returning in Southern Arizona with 75 tackles last season.

Keep an eye out for: Senior RB/LB Mason Cade. He has the ability to gain more than 1,000 yards rushing while approaching 100 tackles on defense. Very strong frame at 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds. Last season, he rushed for 774 yards on 67 carries and had 50 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
