The Sabino passing combination of senior quarterback Cameron Hackworth and junior receiver Shamar Berryhill will each receive Ed Doherty Award Nomination Medallions for their performance Friday in a 51-20 win at Safford.
The Arizona Sports & Entertainment Commission (ASEC) and its managed entity, the Grand Canyon State Gridiron Club (GCSGC), made the announcement Tuesday night.
The nominees will be presented a medallion at their respective school this week and are now in the running for the 2023 Ed Doherty Award, annually recognizing Arizona’s most outstanding high school football player.

Outstanding performances from Week 5 medallion recipients include:
WR Shamar Berryhill, Jr., Sabino
Berryhill had 11 catches for 241 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Safford.
QB Cameron Hackworth, Sr., Sabino
Hackworth completed 29 of 38 passes for 453 yards and six touchdowns.
RB Lucas George, Jr., Queen Creek
In a 71-60 win over Canyon View, George ran for 385 yards and three touchdowns on 33 carries.
DE Jaxson Jones, Sr., Yuma Catholic
Jones, who is headed to Oregon, recorded nine solo tackles (11 total), including five for a loss, with two sacks and two forced fumbles in the 42-20 win over Thatcher.
RB Adam Mohammed, Sr., Apollo
Arizona-bound Mohammed produced four touchdowns on nine carries, totaling 170 yards, in a 48-0 win over West Point. Mohammed now has 78 touchdowns in his prep career, breaking the 5A state record.
QB Malachi Wilt, Soph., Tonopah Valley
In a 47-28 win over Trivium Prep, Wilt was 41 of 59 passing for 626 yards and six touchdowns.
