Sunnyside junior 138-pound standout Sergio Vega, who has a 90-0 record in his high school career, won all of his matches in the Reno Tournament of Champions on Friday and Saturday to claim his third straight title in the prestigious national event at Reno, Nev.
Vega, who has verbally committed to Ivy League program Cornell, won the 113-pound title in 2021 and 126-pound championship last year in the Reno TOC.
The two-time state champion won by a 5-0 decision over Giosue Hickman of Goodyear Canyon View in the 138-pound championship match of the Reno TOC.
Sunnyside will compete against Canyon View in a significant match Wednesday at Desert View at 4 p.m.
The Blue Devils finished third in the team competition in the Reno TOC with 204.5 points, which placed behind champion Burbank, Calif., St. John Bosco (268) and Gilroy, Calif. (220).
Canyon View finished 10th with 133.5 points.
Sunnyside’s Carlitos Stanton, who committed to Iowa State last week, advanced to the championship of the 144-pound weight class in the Reno TOC and placed second.
