On the day the Arizona Bowl honored Canyon del Oro’s Kayden Luke as the Player of the Year in Southern Arizona high school football, the senior earned the Mile High Challenge Most Outstanding Wrestler honor Saturday night after achieving the 215-pound title.

Luke, who is 59-0 with a state title at 215 pounds the last two years, went 5-0 — all wins by fall — in the Mile High Challenge at Prescott.

He capped the weekend pinning Bo Hall of Gilbert Perry High School in 2:51 in the championship match.

Marana’s boys wrestling team, behind William Moore’s championship at 113 pounds and 13 other Tigers who scored, captured the team title with 201 points. Moore, 31-0 this season, was selected one of the outstanding wrestlers of the event.

Morenci was second with 191.5 points and Walden Grove was third at 179.

The Marana girls team took home a championship as well finishing with 157 points with Basha next at 132 and Poston Butte third with 131. CDO finished fourth 124 points.

Marana did not have an individual champion but the Tigers had 10 wrestlers who scored.
