Nogales alum Dominique Acosta earns ACCAC Division II Player of the Week honors

Pima Community College sophomore forward Dominique Acosta, a Nogales High School graduate, earned the ACCAC Division II Player of the Week honor after helping the Aztecs take two of their three games against NJCAA Division I opponents last week.

Acosta had three straight double-doubles in points and rebounds during the Aztec Holiday Classic as Pima beat Bismarck (ND) State College 89-40 and South Plains (Texas) College 64-61 but dropped a close game to Eastern Wyoming College 79-75.

Acosta averaged 16.3 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. She shot 45 percent from the field and grabbed 13 offensive rebounds.

She has played in all 13 games making 11 starts in the front court. She is averaging 14.1 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.

The Aztecs (10-3, 5-1 in ACCAC Region 1) returns to conference play Wednesday at Scottsdale Community College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
