Arizona won its first Pac-12 series of the season with a 6-0 win at Oregon State on Saturday night behind Allie Skaggs’ two home runs and Aissa Silva’s two-hit shutout.
The Wildcats (19-5-1, 2-1 Pac-12) split a doubleheader on Friday before beating the Beavers (12-12, 1-2) on Saturday night in Corvallis, Ore.
Arizona scored six runs on nine hits in Saturday’s win – led by Tayler Biehl and Skaggs with two hits and two RBIs each.
Skaggs, an Ironwood Ridge graduate, hit two home runs in the game and Silva, a Mountain View alum, was dominant in the circle to improve to 11-1.
The Wildcats scored four in the top of the second inning for an early lead.
Skaggs hit a leadoff home run to open the inning. Paige Dimler then hit a triple to score Emily Schepp. Biehl drove in Arizona’s third run of the inning with an RBI single. With two runners on, Regan Shockey singled to plate one more..
Skaggs hit her second leadoff home run — her seventh homer of the season — in the third inning to give Arizona a five-run lead.
In the top of the fifth, Biehl recorded her second hit to drive in Arizona’s sixth run of the game.
Silva struck out a career high nine batters and allowed only two hits in the game.
Arizona returns to Hillenbrand Stadium this week after completing an 11-day road trip to host Washington for its Pac-12 home opener. The three-game series will begin Friday at 5 p.m.
