Marana athlete Sophia Silverstein took part in the MLB Trailblazer Series this past April at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Florida. Silverstein is currently a member of the Thornydale Little League softball team that is headed to the state tournament slated to start on July 5 in Verde Valley.
Silverstein was one of about 100 girls in the country chosen for this event, meant to grow the sport of baseball and she won the home run derby and was an MVP. She met Mo’ne Davis, the first girl to pitch and win a game at the Little League Baseball World Series, and Kelsie Whitmore, the first women to play in a Major League Baseball partner league in 2022.
Thornydale is currently looking for sponsors to help them on their journey to the Little League Softball World Series. Contact Suzie Garcia at suzie_tllsoftball@yahoo.com
