FC Tucson earns first USL League 2 Western Conference championship in franchise history

FC Tucson extended its unbeaten match streak to 11 games with a 3-2 win over Project 51O of Oakland, Calif., in the USL League 2 Western Conference finals on Friday at Peoria, Ill.

FC Tucson (10-2-5) advances to to the USL League 2 national semifinals for the first time in franchise history, dating to their inception in 2010.

They are 8-0-3 in their last 11 matches.

They will play in the semifinals Sunday at 10:30 a.m., Tucson time, the Central Conference champion.

That will be decided by a game between the Flint City (Mich.) Bucks (11-2-3) and Peoria City FC (10-3-5) on Friday night.

FC Tucson rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to beat Project 51O (9-5-1).

Paul Caliari equalized the match at 1-1 in the 62nd minute off a free kick.

Joao Neves scored the go-ahead goal in the 87th minute.
