Marana senior receiver Dezmen Roebuck’s 15 receptions for 120 yards in the Tigers’ 27-24 victory over visiting Salpointe last week brought him closer to a couple of state records set by Arizona freshman receiver Brandon Phelps while he was at ALA-Gilbert North.
Roebuck, 6-foot and 170 pounds and a Washington commit, already holds the state record for receptions in a season with 121 last year.
That topped Elijah Marks’ 113 receptions in 2013 while with Goodyear Desert Edge.
After Friday’s performance against Salpointe, Roebuck trails Phelps by only 10 receptions for the most in a career in state history.
Phelps compiled 282 career receptions from 2020 to 2023 with ALA-Gilbert Noth.
Roebuck is behind Phelps at 272 after the 15 receptions he tallied against Salpointe.
The Tigers (1-0) travel to Tucson High (1-0) on Friday. The record watch will be on at Gridley Stadium.
Roebuck’s 3,228 career receiving yards ranks 16th in state history. Phelps has the record of 4,971 yards.
Former Salpointe standout Cameron Denson holds the Southern Arizona record with 3,537 career receiving yards. Roebuck trails that mark by 309 yards.
