Mica Mountain coach Pat Nugent, a student manager when Dick Tomey coached at Arizona, is going after his first state title. … The Thunderbolts, in their third full varsity season, have never played Coconino. … Mica Mountain has eight players with at least 31 tackles, with the top two — Schmidt and DE Benkay Jwander (48 tackles) — being juniors. … The Thunderbolts have won 26 of their last 28 games dating to the 2022 season. … Coconino WR Noble Young-Blackgoat has a scholarship offer from hometown school NAU.
