Longtime Ironwood Ridge soccer coach Sean Watkins ended his career this winter after 17 seasons with a 257-81-26 record with the Nighthawk girls. Watkins also coached the boys at Canyon del Oro from 1998-2000 and he was also a longtime youth club coach, coaching the likes of former Dorado and professional Donny Toia.
Watkins led the Nighthawks to runner-up finishes in 2011 and 2020. He led the program to nine quarterfinal appearances and six semifinal appearances to go along with the two finals. The Nighthawks competed in five straight semifinals from 2016 to 2020.
Watkins, an advanced math instructor at Ironwood Ridge, told AllSportsTucson he will have more time to watch his son Thacker play eight grade basketball this year and he hopes to return to the coaching ranks when his son enters high school.
Watkins earned the AllSportsTucson Bob Coate Spirit of Coaching recognition in 2020.
Nathan Bias is in his first year with the Nighthawks and he is 5-3 on the year overall and 3-1 in ranking matches.
