Sunnyside’s boys soccer team is again having a dominating season, ranked No. 14 nationally by MaxPreps at 13-2 overall, and a significant reason why is record-breaking senior forward Angel Bracamontes-Pulido.
Bracamontes-Pulido is the career 6A record-holder in goals (70), assists (54) and points (154).
“Angel has been one of the top players in the history of Sunnyside, and the history of 6A, for the past two seasons,” Sunnyside coach Casey O’Brien said. “What makes him special is that for a kid who scores so many goals, he’s actually a very unselfish player. He leads 6A in goals and assists, which is a really special stat to have.
“He always gets his teammates involved in the game and celebrates their successes more than his own. He has a special feel for the game and an unmatched IQ. He will go down in the history books of Arizona as one of the top attacking players ever.”
Bracamonte-Pulido’s 33 assists last season is a 6A record. He has 19 this year with seven regular-season games remaining.
More 6A records:
• Most assists in a game — 4, twice (against Marana last season and Shadow Ridge this season)
• Most points in a game — 12 against Marana last season
• Most points in a season — 105 last season (at 60 this year)
Sunnyside will next play at Marana on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Blue Devils will then host Nogales on Friday at 6:30.
