In a decisive matchup Friday night, the Pueblo High Lady Warriors showcased their championship-caliber play with a commanding 70-38 victory over the Buena High Lady Colts at Buena’s home court in Sierra Vista.

The Lady Warriors (15-2) were led by an outstanding performance from Celine Lopez, who poured in 28 points, while teammate Sara Galindo contributed 16 points to the winning effort. Their consistent offensive execution and defensive pressure proved too much for the struggling Lady Colts (5-7).

Buena faced significant challenges throughout the game, struggling with ball security and suffering a major setback when starter Zion McLin left the game in the first half with a concussion.

The Lady Colts’ offense never found its rhythm, with Kalel Palacios leading the team with 11 points and Icsiss Perez adding nine points.

The unfortunate loss for first-year head coach Pastor Perez puts the team in a situation that it needs to get on a winning streak to be eligible for the playoffs, while Pueblo’s victory further solidified its position as one of the region’s top teams.

Both teams return to action on Monday in the MLK Classic at McKale Center with Buena playing Rincon/University at noon and Pueblo facing Catalina Foothills at 3 p.m. in what promises to be an exciting matchup between two strong programs.
