
The Pima Community College men’s basketball team got tested in its game against Glendale Community College on Saturday at home, but a second half run secured the 91-68 win, enabling the Aztecs to improve to 22-0.
The victory also moved head coach Brian Peabody closer to 700 wins in his career. He is at 698-255 in 32 years as a head coach at the high school and college levels.
The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Wednesday when they play Mesa at 7:30 p.m.
If Pima beats Mesa, Peabody can achieve win No. 700 on the road against Scottsdale on Feb. 5.

The No. 5-ranked Aztecs (22-0, 10-0 ACCAC) accomplished their 19th victory by double digits in Saturday’s win over Glendale (13-6, 5-4).
The last time they played the Gauchos they escaped with an 86-80 win Dec. 7 in Glendale.
Pima held on to a 64-56 lead halfway through the second half, but sophomore Max Majerle’s 3-pointer helped spark a 15-2 run in the next five minutes as they took control with a 79-58 lead with 5:30 left.
Sophomore Wes Ball (Marana) hit a couple baskets during that stretch. Sophomore Kota Benson (formerly of Baboquivari) ran a couple pick-n-roll plays for Ball and sophomore Gabe Oldham to cap off the run.
Pima’s final 12 points came off 3-pointers from Benson, two from freshman Mason Hunt and Majerle.
Majerle scored 14 of his 20 points in the first half as he finished the game going 7 for 14 from the field and 6 for 13 from beyond the arc. He also had four rebounds.
Ball scored 10 of his 14 points in the second half as he also grabbed four rebounds and had three assists.
Benson went 4 for 6 from the field and 3 for 4 from 3-point range as he scored 13 points to go with eight boards and six assists. Oldham also contributed with 13 points as he was 4-for-5 shooting from the field. He also snatched six rebounds.
The bench scored 27 points as Hunt had 15 points and freshman Kaelum Brown added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Sophomore Cohenj Gonzales had eight assists, three steals, three rebounds and two blocks.
