Pusch Ridge No. 10 seed in first girls hoops Copper State Championship bracket

Pusch Ridge, 19-5 overall and the 3A South champion with a 6-0 record, will participate as the No. 10 seed in the first girls Copper State Championship bracket for basketball starting with a game Tuesday at No. 7 San Carlos (24-5).

The Lions have won nine of their last 10 games and are led by sophomore Nicole Njoroge’s 12.3 points a game. She is the only player averaging in double-figure scoring on the balanced team.

If Pusch Ridge wins in the first two rounds of the Copper State Championship, it will continue in the tournament. If the Lions lose in either of those rounds, they will compete in the 3A conference tournament.

The teams added to the conference tournament bracket and the first round winners will advance in the conference tournament to the second round and all schools will be reseeded.

3A HOOPS BRACKET

Sabino (16-10) will play in one of the first-round pool games Thursday against No. 17 Whiteriver Alchesay (12-17). The Sabercats will host the game that starts at 7 p.m.

2A PLAY-IN

2A play-in games Thursday at 7 p.m. involving Southern Arizona schools:

No. 22 Morenci (12-16) at No. 9 Tombstone (23-5)

No. 19 Benson (18-10) at No. 12 Scottsdale Prep (19-7)

No. 18 Gilbert Leading Edge (13-7) at No. 13 Willcox (20-7)
