
The Pima Community College women’s basketball team returned to the win column on Saturday routing Phoenix College 77-49 behind a near triple-double by freshman point guard Melicia Nelson at the Aztec West Gym.
Nelson, out recently because of concussion protocol, finished with seven points on 3-for-4 shooting from the field to go with 13 rebounds and eight assists.
The No. 9 Aztecs (18-5, 10-3) broke away in the third quarter to beat the Bears (11-13, 5-8) and a two-game losing skid.
Pima led 32-22 at halftime but opened its lead outscoring Phoenix College 26-6 in the third quarter to go up 58-28.
Freshman Kiley Sours-Miller scored a game-high 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds as she shot 7 for 13 from the field.
Freshman Kennedi Niemann finished with nine points and five rebounds while sophomore Mattanaya Vital (Amphitheater) and Katie Burns (Catalina Foothills) each posted eight points. Freshman Lucy Land scored seven points off the bench. Sophomore Annalise Holthaus (Ironwood Ridge) contributed with six points and four rebounds.
The Aztecs next play at Chandler-Gilbert on Wednesday in an ACCAC conference matchup. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
